Electric motors are widely adopted in industrial operations: in 2020, electric motors represented approximately 70% of the industrial electricity consumption in the EU-27.
The EU-M³ (EU-MORE Motor Model) represents a cutting-edge analytical framework developed under the EU-MORE project to assess the impact of motor replacement policies on energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the EU.
The EU-M³ model aims to evaluate the environmental, economic and material flow impacts of replacing old, inefficient motors with energy-efficient alternatives. It seeks to empower policymakers and stakeholders with a robust tool for understanding and implementing effective strategies to reduce energy demand and GHG emissions across the EU-27.
The EU-M³ model employs a structured methodology for analyzing motor replacement policies, and it is able to project the impact of both financial measures like subsidies and non-financial measures such as information campaigns and capacity building initiatives.
The model has been incorporated into a dedicated Excel tool, freely available at: https://eu-more.eu/downloads/
